We are delighted to announce our continued commitment to the modernization of the small-scale fisheries value chain in Senegal. In partnership with the General Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship of Women and Youth (DER/FJ), we delivered on December 19, 20 CFAO fibreglass pirogues, powered by Yamaha and equipped with modern fishing equipment, to 20 Economic Interest Groups (EIGs) that have benefited from financing, in the regions of Dakar, Louga, Saint-Louis and Ziguinchor.
These canoes, designed to last more than 25 years, offer increased safety due to their stability and unsinkability. In addition, they reduce the environmental impact by minimizing wood cutting, but also thanks to a 30% reduction in fuel consumption. As such, they represent an important step towards a more prosperous and sustainable economy.
In addition, on 17 December, CFAO Mobility organized a symbolic ceremony in Ouakam to hand over 94 CFAO fibreglass pirogues, also equipped and motorised by Yamaha, to the Ministry of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure. This donation offered by Japan was held in the presence of H.E. the Ambassador of Japan to Senegal, Izawa Osamu, Dr. Fatou Diouf, Minister of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Abdou Aziz Guèye, Mayor of Ouakam and Pascal Louchelart, Managing Director of CFAO Mobility in Senegal, representing the CFAO Group.
Thanks to this donation from Japan, Senegal will be able to improve its fishing and surveillance activities within fishing communities. These canoes will also contribute to the creation of new sustainable economic opportunities for coastal and island communities.
